BC Provincial Court registries and court locations.
The Provincial Court of British Columbia sits in 88 places, from staffed courthouses with a full-time registry to circuit sites that are staffed only on hearing days. Search the map for your community, see what each location offers, and find where family documents for that location are filed.
Only the Supreme Court can grant a divorce or deal with most property and debt division. The BC Supreme Court registries page lists that court’s locations.
The correct registry depends on the type of proceeding and the applicable court rules. If you already have a case, check the registry on your filed documents. Confirm with the registry before travelling.
Schedules, services and filing arrangements change. Every location below was checked against the official sources on November 2, 2026, and each one links to them.
Search the map.
Type a community or courthouse name. Variants work: Fort St John or Fort St. John, Queen Charlotte or Daajing Giids, Poco or Port Coquitlam. Open a location for its address, registry phone, contact registry for a circuit site, and official links. The address bar then holds a link straight to that location.
“Nearest registries to me” asks your browser for your position and measures the distance on this page. Your location is never sent anywhere.

What the Provincial Court handles in a family case.
The Province’s family justice pages describe the Provincial Court’s family jurisdiction this way. It can make orders about:
- guardianship;
- parenting arrangements;
- contact with a child;
- child support and spousal support; and
- property division respecting a companion animal.
You can also get a family law protection order from the Provincial Court. The Provincial Court cannot grant a divorce, and it cannot deal with other property or debt division. Those go to the Supreme Court, which can deal with all family law issues. Property division respecting a companion animal can be resolved in either court.
When a case involves only parenting, guardianship or support, both courts can deal with it. Which court a particular case goes to depends on its facts. This page describes both courts and does not answer that question.
Which Provincial Court registry the rules point to.
The Provincial Court Family Rules say which registry is used. Rule 7 does it in three parts.
“(1) The registry that must be used for filing a form or document under these rules is the following: (a) if there is an existing case with the same parties, the registry where the existing case is located; (b) if there is not an existing case with the same parties, the registry closest to the following: (i) if the case involves a child-related issue, the residence where the child lives most of the time; (ii) if the case does not involve a child-related issue, the residence of the person who first files a document under these rules.”
“(2) If there is an existing case, (a) the existing court file must be used if the parties are the same, or (b) a new court file in the same registry must be used if paragraph (a) does not apply.”
“(3) A party seeking an order about a protection order or a priority parenting matter may do so in any registry, with permission of the court.”
Rule 7 speaks of the registry closest to a residence. The straight-line distances the map shows are a starting point, not an answer, and a circuit site is not a registry you file at. Confirm with the registry before you file.
Early resolution registries
“a registry listed in Appendix 1 is an early resolution registry for the purposes of Part 2”
Appendix 1 was re-enacted by B.C. Reg. 17/2026 and lists 46 early resolution registries. Each one is marked on the map and in the directory. In those registries Rule 10 sets steps that come before an application about a family law matter is filed:
“Before filing an application about a family law matter under Part 3, a party seeking resolution of a family law matter in an early resolution registry must, unless otherwise provided in these rules, (a) file a notice to resolve in Form 1, (b) provide a copy of the notice to resolve to each other party, (c) participate in a needs assessment under rule 16, (d) complete a parenting education program under rule 17, and (e) participate in at least one consensual dispute resolution session under rule 18.”
The application itself is Form 3, the Application About a Family Law Matter. Rule 24 (2) provides that outside an early resolution registry a party files and serves Form 3; Rule 24 (3) provides that in an early resolution registry the party first meets the Rule 10 requirements and then files and serves Form 3. The Province adds that the early resolution requirements do not apply to applications for other orders, including protection orders, priority parenting matters, relocation, enforcement, case management and consent orders.
Filing locations
For some early resolution registries, the Province names a different courthouse as the place to file. Its table, last updated May 7, 2026, lists these:
Parenting education program registries
“all registries, except early resolution registries, are parenting education program registries for the purposes of Part 7”
The Province explains that in those registries the Parenting After Separation course must be completed before a family management conference will be scheduled.
Former family justice registries
B.C. Reg. 17/2026 repealed the separate family justice registry track. Rule 199 now defines three former family justice registries: Vancouver (Robson Square), effective November 1, 2025, and Kelowna and Nanaimo, effective May 1, 2026. Rule 200 (1) provides that “the family justice rules continue to apply in relation to a family law matter started in a former family justice registry.” Older material that describes a family justice registry track as current is out of date.
Circuit courts: hearings, not filing.
A circuit court is a place the court travels to. Judges and court staff attend on scheduled hearing days. The Province’s courthouse directory puts it two ways on the same page:
“The remaining 47 locations are circuit court sites which are staffed on court hearing days only (documents cannot be filed at these locations).”
“Most circuit court locations do not have full-time registry services. At these locations, documents can only be filed on scheduled court days. At all other times, documents must be filed at the circuit court’s designated home court location.”
Because the two sentences do not say quite the same thing, this page treats every circuit site as one you do not file at, and names the contact registry the directory gives for it. Ask that registry before you file anything at a circuit site.
Four Vancouver locations, four different jobs.
Vancouver is not one courthouse. For a Provincial Court family case, the directory lists Robson Square as the location for Provincial small claims, family, youth courts and traffic. 222 Main Street is the Provincial criminal court, and the Downtown Community Court is a specialized criminal court. The Law Courts at 800 Smithe Street are Supreme Court only.

88 locations, alphabetical: 41 with a staffed registry and the rest circuit court sites. The Province’s directory says it has 90 court locations, 43 of them staffed. On November 2, 2026 it listed 89: 42 staffed and 47 circuit. The Provincial Court sits at every one of them except the Vancouver Law Courts, which is Supreme Court only.

It describes where the Provincial Court sits and what the Provincial Court Family Rules say about registries. It does not decide which court a case belongs in, which registry a particular case must be filed in, or whether a party is exempt from the early resolution requirements. Those questions turn on the facts of the case and are matters for independent legal advice or the registry.
Questions people actually ask.
Which Provincial Court registry do I file a family case in?
Rule 7 (1) of the Provincial Court Family Rules provides that if there is an existing case with the same parties, the registry where that case is located must be used. If there is not, the rule points to the registry closest to the residence where the child lives most of the time, or, if the case does not involve a child-related issue, the residence of the person who first files a document. Rule 7 (3) allows a protection order or priority parenting matter to be sought in any registry, with permission of the court. Confirm with the registry before filing.
What is an early resolution registry?
Rule 6 (a) provides that a registry listed in Appendix 1 to the Provincial Court Family Rules is an early resolution registry. Appendix 1, re-enacted by B.C. Reg. 17/2026, lists 46 of them. In an early resolution registry, Rule 10 requires a notice to resolve in Form 1, a needs assessment, a parenting education program and at least one consensual dispute resolution session before an application about a family law matter is filed, unless the rules provide otherwise.
Can I file documents at a circuit court?
The Province’s courthouse directory says circuit court sites are staffed on court hearing days only and that documents cannot be filed at these locations. Elsewhere on the same page it says documents can only be filed at those locations on scheduled court days, and at all other times at the circuit court’s designated home court location. Each circuit site on this page names the contact registry the directory gives for it. Ask that registry before filing.
Where is the Vancouver Provincial Court family registry?
The Province’s directory lists Robson Square Provincial Court, Box 21, 800 Hornby Street, Vancouver, as the location for Provincial small claims, family, youth courts and traffic. 222 Main Street is the Provincial criminal court. The Law Courts at 800 Smithe Street are the Supreme Court.
Can the Provincial Court grant a divorce or divide property?
No. The Province’s family justice pages say the Provincial Court cannot deal with property or debt division other than property division respecting a companion animal, and that only the Supreme Court can handle divorce. See the BC Supreme Court registries page for that court’s locations.
Is the courthouse closest to me the one I file at?
Not necessarily. Rule 7 looks at an existing case first, then at where the child lives most of the time, or where the first filer lives. Some early resolution registries also have a filing location at a different courthouse, and circuit sites are not filing locations. The distances the map shows are straight-line distances only.
